Black Artist Fund

[nueBOX] is committed to continuing our support of Black artists through several initiatives, including free studio space for BIPOC artists, Black artist meet-ups, workshops geared towards BIPOC artists, and making sure 70% of the artists supported by our residencies are BIPOC.

Our new and upcoming initiatives have come from what the Black artists supported by the initial Black Artist Fund have said they want. We were fortunate to be able to hold a conversation with some of the artists where they had the space to share their experiences as a Black artist in the Phoenix area and offer suggestions for what we as [nueBOX] can do to better hold space for and offer material support to them. We also gathered information from the artists through a survey to gain even more insights into what's helpful, needed, and wanted.

In 2021 the Black Artist Fund will take a different shape as we are shifting towards a model of longer-term, more personalized artist support. We're doing this by inviting Black artists into a four-month, three-person cohort where they'll receive $250, support from [nueBOX] staff to produce and present their art, and paid teaching, performance, and exhibition opportunities.

Apart from this cohort, [nueBOX] will continue our fundraising efforts throughout 2021 to collect more money from our community that we'll use to support additional Black artists through one-off stipends similar to the ones we distributed earlier this year.

This form is currently in demo mode.
